Capturing the unique quality of light in a specific place and time has been an irresistible challenge to artists for centuries — as it has been for Calico, the zeitgeisty Brooklyn brand behind the colourful Aurora wallpaper collection.
Inspired by founders Nick and Rachel Cope’s travels, each of Aurora’s 21 patterns reflects a different place, time and mood within its gradients. The collection is the product of extensive research into shibori, ombré and other traditional techniques that suspend fabric in mineral pigments to hand-transfer dyes. Its non-repeating gradients ranging from soft Amaranth and Ray to dramatic Flush can be ordered (on clay-coated paper or Type II PVC-free substrate) as mood-setting murals for domestic or large-scale architectural use.
