A parkade for a carless future, this seven-storey elliptical helix in Calgary comes with plans for how its interiors might someday be turned into offices or condominiums. The spiral floor plate increases at a nearly invisible gradient so that, in the future, large areas can be made flat with minimal surface topping. The aluminum pickets that protect the building can easily become balcony guardrails. During the design process, the architects reconfigured the bottom level to accommodate a tech accelerator, the Platform Innovation Centre — thereby proving that their project is as versatile as they say it is.
