The BD House articulates a clear separation between the built environment and nature — except when it doesn’t. The two upper levels, with bedrooms and recreation areas, are sequestered in a concrete volume, which floats above the ground floor, a sumptuously furnished living area connected to the outdoors via floor-to-ceiling windows. The upper volume isn’t completely cut off from its environment, though; large swaths of the exterior walls are encased in a “cobogó,” an intricate wooden lattice that protects the interiors from the elements while letting air and light through.
